Cargo Securing Checklist
Basic rules for securing cargo safely
In 2017, there were more than 5000 accidents involving trucks in the Netherlands (the Directorate-General for Public Works and Water Management), 25% of which were caused by cargo not being secured properly. These accidents lead to long tailbacks, material damage, recovery costs, high insurance premiums and a bad image. As a transport company, it goes without saying that you want to prevent such incidents from happening. It is therefore extremely important for you to secure your cargo correctly. Securing your cargo properly is essential for safe transport.
The problem for international transport companies is that the cargo securing requirements differ from country to country. In order to make cargo securing regulations more uniform, the EU has produced a manual on how to secure cargo safely on road vehicles*.
Because this manual is quite extensive, we have drawn up a handy cargo securing checklist for you. While this checklist is certainly not comprehensive, it does contain the basic rules that you should follow for the safe transportation of cargo.
